All of the ancient mystical philosophies are founded on the idea that the universe is all-pervaded by a connective energetic force. Indian philosophy refers to it as “prana”. Chinese (Taoist) thought calls it “Chi”. There are numerous variations throughout different cultures. The idea of this universal energy implies that it exists within everything (all forms of matter).
The more contemporary sciences have developed our understanding that all physical matter is made up of atoms (the smallest divisible pieces) of different elements, and that these atoms are merely energy entities. The different elements of matter (ex. Hydrogen, Oxygen, Silicon, Iron, etc.) are merely atoms which vibrate at different frequencies. Thus, physical matter is simply energy which vibrates at different levels which thus determine the properties/behaviors of the material things they compose in the natural world. For instance, Iron (Fe) is energy operating at a specific vibration which gives it the qualities are hardness at certain temperatures and makes it interact with other elements in specific ways which then transform into other forms of matter.
This basic concept can then be extended from the inorganic world into the organic (Carbon based) one. Thus, the same minerals which exist and function throughout the inorganic world (ex. geological processes) also operate within the organic world (ex. our human bodies and those of all other organisms and life forms).
There are a multitude of simple examples which illustrate this idea. For instance, our bones and teeth are made up primarily of the same Calcium that composes many forms of inorganic matter (ex. rocks such as Limestone). In fact, Calcium exists in the human body to perform other very important tasks such as neurological transmission.
Other minerals which are commonly found in the human body (and those of other life forms) include : Potassium, Sodium, Magnesium, Carbon, etc. In fact, there are nearly one hundred minerals which the body much intake and use and are ESSENTIAL to life. In other words, without thes essential minerals (and the proper amounts of them) our life process would simply not operate properly (a.k.a. illness) or cease completely (a.k.a.) death.
Once we consider the ramifications of this simple truth we can begin to understand that the study of minerals is a major foundation in our understanding of the nature of universe as a whole. It also enables us to more reasonably justify and understand the connection between inorganic and organic matter, such as that which forms the basis of the metaphysical science of “crystal healing”. For example, if the same atoms of calcium which exist in a rock also exist in your bones then is it really so outlandish to consider that the two may interact and influence each other?
There are many examples of this fundamental concept which we will examine in future sections. For now, just contemplate this idea and as you go through your daily experience think of some of the different minerals which exist in your body and where else in nature those elements exist. As you ponder this your awareness of the nature of the world and our place in it will begin to expand.
